The city carries two quite different lending needs at once: a large formally employed population who need short salary-backed credit between paydays, and one of the densest concentrations of informal enterprise anywhere in the region, which needs working capital on a trading cycle.

Local context

Lending and the Harare economy

Formal employment and salary credit

As the seat of government and the head-office location for most national employers, Harare has the country’s largest concentration of salaried workers. The Chapupu Salary Advance is built for exactly this — a short, salary-backed facility at our lowest published rate.

Informal trade at scale

Mbare Musika is the largest produce market in Zimbabwe and sets prices well beyond the city. Traders working on that cycle — buy early, sell through the day, restock — need credit that matches it, which is what a six-month working-capital facility is for.

Light manufacturing and the home industries

Glen View Area 8 for furniture and Siyaso in Mbare for metalwork and vehicle parts are among the largest informal manufacturing clusters in Southern Africa. These businesses buy materials in bulk and are paid on completion — a classic working-capital gap.

Peri-urban horticulture

Market gardens across Domboshava, Goromonzi and Seke supply the city daily. Growers face the same seasonal input problem as commercial farmers, which is what Zunde Agri-Input is structured around.
